Hello, trying to diagnose an issue with noise and I've realised I don't quite understand some fundamentals about my power supply (Pedal Power 3 Plus).
I'd assumed that any and all pedal power cables connected to the 9v or 9/12v outputs of the supply would share a ground with the main power cable connecting the supply to the wall. In my case I'm in the UK, so the cable has a three-pin plug. However when testing with a multimeter I get no continuity at all between either the center or outer casing of individual power cable jacks and the ground pin on the main power cable (or any of the other pins for that matter).
Does this mean that there is no path to ground back through the power supply for pedals that are using the power supply?
Grounding on Pedal Power 3 Plus
Re: Grounding on Pedal Power 3 Plus
As is the case with all our power supplies, the earth ground does is not tied to the audio ground. Mostly, the earth ground is merely a safety feature (but may sometimes also have some influence on shielding too).
Hope this helps!
