Re: Pedal Power 2 unit and EVH Chorus Pedal

I'm having the same problem. I am using a pedal power 2 and it won't fully power the MXR EVH chorus pedal. Having lived in Europe it's like bringing an amp with 220v and trying to use it with our 110/120v outlets.

I had the MXR analog Chorus connected to slot 4 on my GCX and powered by the pedal power 2. Never had any problems. As soon as I switched out the pedal for the EVH Chorus I noticed only a little blue light signalling it's not getting the proper power.

Both MXR pedals require 9v and the polarity is the same - still scratching my head on why I'm experiencing this.

I tried my old Boss 9v power adapter and it powered the EVH Chorus perfectly. I also tried it with a new 9v battery and it worked fine.

I reconnected the MXR analog chorus back and it works perfectly. I tried other slots on the power pedal and still had the issue with the EVH Chorus.

Weird...anyone else have this problem and was able to solve it?

Instant Access Buttons?

Hi,

Anyone know how to assigned IA buttons so they use the same GCX loop (in my case loop 1 which is an H9 pedal) but different user preset on the H9?

I'm using the GCP with a GCX and cannot determine how I can assigned instant access buttons 1 -4 to use the same pedal (H9 pedal from GCX Loop1) but different effect channels from the H9 pedal.

Example.

I'm in the 4 preset mode and have my H9 connected to the GCX in loop 1. What I would like to do is assign the first 4 instant access buttons as follows:

- Instant access button 1 - control H9 effect 96 (96 is the user preset on the H9)
- Instant access button 2 - control H9 effect 97 (97 is the user present on the H9)
- Instant access button 3 - control H9 effect 98 (98 is the user present on the H9)
- Instant access button 4 - control H9 effect 99 (99 is the user present on the H9)

I've been able to assigned access IA button 2 to control GCX loop 1 (the H9) but I cannot figure out how to make button 1 use the H9 with effect #96 and button 2 use the H9 with effect #97. Also, If I program any of the present to call up GCX Loop 1 all 4 IA buttons are active. My hope was to use the IA as an On/Off and not all be active at the same time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Here is a layout of what I'm trying to accomplish:

ground control pro layout:

- 4 preset mode with instant access mode

-- 1 GCX Loop 1 (H9 with effect preset 96 Slap back delay)
-- 2 GCX Loop 1 (H9 with effect preset 97 MicoPitch #1)
-- 3 GCX Loop 1 (H9 with effect preset 98 MicroPitch #2)
-- 4 GCX Loop 1 (H9 with effect preset 99 Detune effect)
-- 5 GCX Loop 5 Delay (Boss Pedal short delay)
-- 6 GCX Loop 6 Delay (Boss Pedal Long delay)
-- 7 GCX Loop 7 MXR EQ Pedal
-- 8 GCX Loop 8 MXR SmartGate

Thanks Bettsaj, I'll give that a try first chance I get.

GCP --> GCX Instant Access question

I'm currently using the 10 presets configuration; however, I want to switch it to the 4 Presents with Instant Access option. I can't figure out how to keep the instant access buttons static no matter what bottom row button I chose.

How can I set up the GCP for 4 presents with 1-8 to be instant access that doesn't change when I switch the 4 presents buttons on the bottom row? I know I can configure the bottom 4 button to do whatever I want but I'd rather treat the instant access button like a pedal board.

On the bottom row of the GCP 1-4 is assigned as channel 1 (Clean), 2 (rhythm) , and 3 (Lead) of my EVH 5150II. I don't really use the 4th button on the bottom row. The bottom row of the GCP is used only to change the channels on my EVH.

Right now if I'm playing clean (bottom #1 button) and want my chorus to be engaged I would hit the (top row) #1 button of the GCP. This has me playing the clean channel on my EVH with chorus.

But....

When I step on the #2 button on the bottom row to engage the 2nd channel of my EVH I lose the chorus. I can assigned the chorus to the #2 button on the bottom row but I would like to have my instant access buttons be static regardless which channel (bottom buttons) I select. I have all my pedals (instant access 1-8) attached to a GCX so I'm thinking having the instant access options on continues on or continues off????

Can this be done?

You can disable the GCX on any of your presets so pressing the preset button will not change anything on the GCX.
This is done in Preset Edit.
1. Recall the preset you want to edit.
2. Press the Edit button.
3. Press the Select Down button repeatedly until you see the "GCX-1" screen.
4. Press the No button. The screen should briefly say "DISABLED" then show "(GCX-1)" to indicate that the GCX is disabled for this preset.
5. Press the Edit button to exit, then press the Yes button to Save.

Or you can create presets that are specifically for this one song that set the proper amp channel and effects for the main changes in the song. It isn't uncommon to use a preset bank for a song with the presets being something like 1. Intro 2. Verse 3. Chorus 4. Solo often with the song title incorporated into the preset title.

I hope that helps!
This was great info...Thank you. I ended up disabling the GCX for my presets (1-4) which works like a charm. Although I do see the value in using a bank for a song where delay (or any effect) is needed in certain places.

GCP in stomp box mode?

I'm having trouble setting up my GCP to be like a stomp box configuration. Here is what I'm trying to do and I hope someone could point me in the right direction.

I current have the GCP setup in 4 preset mode with the 8 IA buttons. Here is a rough outline of what I have it setup now.

Presets 1 -4 = Clean, rhythm, lead, lead w/long delay. Basically I use 1-4 as my channel switching on my amp.

Instant access button (GCX) =
1. Micro Amp
2. Phaser
3. Flanger
4. Chorus
5. Octave
6-8. Empty

I want to be able to switch channels using my GCP without losing my phaser. I know I can program the channels to have phaser but I only need it for one song. So, for my use I would prefer that I engage my phaser and it stay on even through channel changes.

I think I need to put my effect pedals for the 8 IA buttons on a momentary instead of a normal..if I understand the manual correctly???? Would that be correct or is there another way?

Re: Help!?! GCP - Control Switcher -5150 III setup??

It's been awhile but I figured I would post what I did...after talking to Voodoo Labs it was determined that I needed to reset the GCP back to factory settings as I had configured the GCP to work with an amp that was midi capable. So by resetting back to factory settings I was then able to get the control switcher to talk correctly to the GCP.

Re: GCX not powering the GCP

It looks like I was using the wrong midi cable. Only 3 of the 5 pins were wired. Of course there are no guitar stores locally that carry what I need (all 5 pins wired).

Any suggestions on midi cable brands/model and where to get them?

GCX not powering the GCP

I was hoping someone could help me troubleshoot why my GCX is not powering up the GCP using the midi cable. I have the midi cable connected to the Midi Out on the GCP into the pedal in on the GCX (Ground Control only).

I end up using the supplied power adapter to power the GCP and everything works fine but I have no luck powering up the GCP using the GCX. I did try different midi cables so I'm thinking something is wrong or huge user error on my part.

Any ideas? Suggestions?

Re: Help!?! GCP - Control Switcher -5150 III setup??

Seems I did something wrong. When I got home I plugged everything back in and now the control switcher is not on monetary pulse/on mode. I had to reconfigure that twice today and it seems to revert back to basic monetary...I'm all confused. :(

So I'm not sure where to begin again...
