power adaptor and phantom power at the same time

Post by nep » Sun Jan 21, 2018 7:43 am

Hi John,

I was wondering, whether I can safely use a 5 pin MIDI cable between a HEX and a Control Switcher when both HEX and Control Switcher also receive power via their individual barrel connectors at the same time.
The chain is Commander -> Control Switcher -> HEX
I know I could use the jumpers inside the Control Switcher and power everything from HEX (I asked about that before), but I just want to know if I have to be careful when I use a 5 pin MIDI cable if I am ever going to power HEX and Control Switcher individually.

On a more general note, are there any other devices where I would have to be careful (e.g. wall wart and phantom power for a Ground Control Pro)?

Thanks in advance!

This should be a perfectly safe setup, powering both the Hex and the Control Switcher. No problemo!

As for the Ground Control Pro, I wouldn't send it both Phantom Power and connect a power adapter... not gonna break it, but it will generate unnecessary heat inside the controller.

I hope that helps!
