I have searched this forum but only found this.

http://www.voodoolab.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2152&hilit=Stuck+saving

Basically I have an old DMC Ground Control that will let me walk through the entire process to save my edits but gets stuck on the "Saving to ##".

I have disconnected all cables except for the power, booted it up that way and the problem still occurs. So this issue is slightly different than the one in the post above.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Have you ever upgraded the software or memory in this unit? If so, follow the dis-assembly instructions and check that the memory chip is seated properly in its socket. Otherwise you can give us a call or write to info@voodoolab.com to arrange for us to take a look at it.

I hope that helps!

I have not. I actually believe this to be a v1.0. Unfortunately I left it with the rest of my gear at my bands practice space so I will have to check it then.

Will the chip still be seated improperly on these older models like this?

I think what John meant was, if you - or a previous owner - ever upgraded the memory, perhaps the new memory chip wasn't seated properly and worked itself loose over time, not that loose memory chips were an inherent problem in the older, DMC units.

I understood that. I was more interested in the possibility of "chip creep". It's a common problem for older style eproms and such to back them selves out due to fluctuating temperatures. As this board does live on a pedalboard and does get moved around quite a bit, I was considering this as an option and maybe by reseating the chip in question, it could possibly resolve the issue.

At this point, I am looking for any answer. In the long term, I will likely step up to a GCP but for now, those funds are unavailable.

You can certainly check that the chips are fully seated in their sockets. If this is a v1.00 original Ground Control, then it is likely pushing about 20 years old. A 20 year old MIDI footswitch... who knows what it has been subjected to in that time ;)

Ha-ha, no joke.

I did check the chips and they seemed firmly seated but I reseated them anyway. However, instead of using the Pedal Power 2, I used a 9v 500mA power supply and that seemed to work but when I plugged the board back into the PP2, it wouldn't save. I am starting to wonder if the PP2 isn't supply the correct mA would that affect this issue?

Ah-Ha!

No single output on a Pedal Power 2 has the current capacity to power a Ground Control. You could, however, get away with using a Current Doubler cable connected to outputs 5 and 6 in order to power the Ground Control.

Good Luck!

Huh...

Well it has enough to power the Ground Control to send signals just not enough to save. Learned something new!

Next issue then is this. I have the GC set up with an expression pedal to control the volume of my rig. This pedal works on my original 4 presets but not on channel 7. I have saved channel 7 to mirror the settings of one of the working channels and the volume control does not seem to be passing through.

Thoughts?

Are you sure the expression pedal port is assigned to point to the correct device?

1. Recall preset 07.
2. Press and hold the Bank Down button.
3. Scroll down to the expression pedal port being used.
4. Press the Cursor Right button.
5. The Data +/- buttons scroll through the devices in the list.

I hope that helps!
