Hello,

I have two marshall heads that I have connected (as A/B switching (or stereo)) like seen at page 9 of the gcx manual.

I have 4 mxr pedals that are currently connected to the gcx and are connected via FX Loop to "one" of those heads. It works great.

My question is: Is it possible to use the 4 pedals with the fx loop of both amps?

I hope you understand what I mean ...

1) 4 pedals -> Fx Loop, Marshall head1
2) same 4 pedals -> Fx Loop, Marshall head2
3) A/B switching head1 or head2

If anyone is using a similar config, I would really appreciate some drawings ... as I'm really lost on how to achieve this.

Thank you very much!!!

You can treat the two heads as two preamps by A/B switching the Effects sends. After the "preamp" A/B you can route through your four pedals, then after the four pedals you can either A/B to the appropriate Effects Return, or simply split the signal to run to both at all times.

I hope that helps!

Thank you for your reply.
I'm not sure I understood you correctly.
Actually, I would like to use the FX Loop of each individual marshall head

Here is my current config:
The 4 pedals are connected to a gcx loop (loop 1 to 4)
1) The "in" of loop1 goes to "fx send" of head1.
2) The "out of loop4 goes to "fx return" of head1.
3) "guitar out" (rear panel) goes to loop5 "in" and "send" goes to amp1 guitar input
4) "feed thru" (rear panel) goes to loop6 "in" and "send" goes to amp2 guitar input.

I would like to do the following:
1) The "in" of loop1 goes to "fx send" of head1 & head2
2) The "out" of loop4 goes to "fx return" of head1 & head2
3) idem
4) idem

With a single set of mono effects you cannot run them in both effects loops at once.

In your original post you gave three end result scenarios. I read that as wanting to have an A OR B situation, but never an A AND B situation.

Thanks got it!

I have one additional question. Sorry as I'm a cable noob ...

What kind of "y cable" do they use here to connect loop2 with loop5 and loop6:
http://www.voodoolab.com/gcxdiagrams/09-Mono_Mono_Stereo.pdf

Assuming loop1 and loop2 use mono pedals would this cable work to do the mono mono stereo:
<http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_sssnake_ypp2230.htm>
the cable has one stereo trs adapter and 2 mono trs adapters.

Thank you very very much.

The cable you linked is known as an Insert Cable or Stereo Breakout Cable... it is not the correct thing for what is shown in the diagram.

A Y-Cable as mentioned in the diagram will have all three ends mono. It is just a mono split to feed two inputs from a single output.

Good Luck!
