Hi, I'd like to connect the GCX to an Axe Fx 2.
From Axe midi thru to GCX midi in.

1. However, is the only solution to get a 5pin midicable and cut away pin 1 and 3 on the GCX side of the cable? Which pins are 1 and 3 btw, the outer ones?
Or is there a proper cable?

2. I'd like to power the GCX from a Furman M10xe.
Do I need the adapter from the original power cable or can I just use a common cable with the proper plug for the GCX (couldn't find one yet)?

Thank you very much for your help and patience.

Jan

1. Does the Axe-FX 2 use pins 1 and 3 on its MIDI Out? What MIDI controller will you be using?

2. The GCX requires 9VAC... If you are using the power conditioner mentioned, you will need a cable that converts from the Reverse IEC found on the conditioner to the Mains AC connector on your GCX power supply. A local tech may be able to simply put a Reverse IEC plug on the power supply provided with the GCX.

Hello John, thank you for the help!

1. I'm currently in the process of getting information on this.
The manual is not clear about it. It says it uses 5 Pin MIDI cables on the MIDI thru connection but it doesn't state whether it uses all of them.
I don't think it sends power on this out, it just sends MIDI information.

2. So the easiest way is to just use an adapter like that?

http://www.amazon.de/netSells%C2%AE-Net ... 561&sr=8-3

sorry, its German.

Also, if I use the GCX in the effects loop of the Axe can I just let the signal (coming from the Axe send) enter the GCX on the return of the 1st loop? I wouldn't use the instrument in on the GCX in that case.

thanks again for your patience!

Why must the GCX be routed after the Axe-FX in the MIDI path? What MIDI controller will you be using for this rig?

1. If you are unsure if these pins are in use then it would probably be best to remove pins 1 and 3 from either end of the cable that is connected to the GCX Pedal In jack. Pins 1 and 3 are the outer, one at each end of the "smile" ;)

2. The adapter you linked to would allow you to power the GCX power supply from your power conditioner.

Bonus: If the devices that you will be switching are to ultimately be routed throught the effects loop on the Axe-FX, then your basic connections would be:
-Axe-FX Effect Send => In of the first GCX Loop to be used in the series chain.
-Out of the last GCX Loop to be used in the series chain => Axe-FX Effect Return.

I hope that helps!

John, first off, I'd like to express my admiration to how patiently you keep answering all the threads here.
Searching through the forum there have been lots of other questions I'd have asked already answered by you.
Much appreciated!

I've got Cordial CFD 5 Pin-MIDI cables now that have only 3 pins connected.
No worries about that anymore then.
Also, the GCX send passes MIDI on to a Diezel VH4 with this kind of cable (which should also work).

I'm connecting the MFC-101 with an RJ45 cable that also provides power with the Axe 2. It's the easiest way and in my case the most important one as the Axe receives by far the most MIDI commands.

Thanks!

This should be an impressive rig! Good Luck!
