I am posting this in a few forums in the hopes that this actually make sense and that someone may have an answer.

So let me explain the scenario. Here was my previous setup: Voodoo Labs Ground Control Pro----> RJM RG 16 Switcher (with 4 or 5 pedals in the loops, including a Line 6 M5 for delays in the amps loop)----> Bogner Ecstasy Amplifier

So I recently purchased a Line 6 POD HD Pro in hopes of getting rid of the pedals using the 4 cable method. I have the VL Ground Control set up to have 4 presets per bank and 8 instant access buttons that are set up with the Line 6 MIDI CC# for toggling effects on and off. I have set up an FX chain preset in the Line 6 that has a whammy, phaser, chorus, tremolo, reverb, analog delay (all before the preamp) and a digital delay in the amps fx loop. What I want to do is be able to leave the same chain of FX for all 4 presets but have Preset #1 with only the Phaser toggled on. Preset #2 with only the whammy toggled on. Preset #3 with only the analog delay toggled on and Prest #4 with only the digital delay toggled on. Plus I'd like to be able to toggle other effects on if I'd like.

It was suggested to me to just make 4 different Program Changes in the Line 6 and use one for each of the 4 presets on the GCP. The problem with this is delay and reverb trails do not work when you are using Program Changes.

I am really hoping this makes sense and what I would like to do is possible. It would be very nice if for each song my band does be able to pull up a bank and have 4 presets using the same chain of fx as described above.

Thanks.

Since the software in the POD HD Pro wont allow the spillover when changing patches, probably the easiest thing to do would be to always stay on the same POD HD Pro patch and just automate switching the effects within that patch on/off as needed. To do this simply assign your Ground Control Pro Instant Access buttons to Transmit with Preset and create Ground Control Pro presets that control the state of the Instant Access buttons but don't send any Program Changes on the MIDI Channel the POD HD Pro is listening on.

I hope this helps!

That is how I had her set up to begin with but for some reason the Line 6 unit is not saving the info. It pops up correctly on the GC but not on the POD HD Pro. each time I select a preset 1-4 it chooses different effects than what were originally saved. I'm sure I am missing something. Operator error for sure.

Are you sure you set the Program Change sent by the Ground Control Pro to "--" for each of these presets?

After selecting Ground Control Pro preset 01, try toggling just one of the Instant Access buttons on and off a few times... does it recall the correct effect every time?

yes it does. if i save it that way and then come back to that preset the ia button is still lit up but the effect on the podhdpro is not always selected. other times comepletely other effects that weren't part of the preset are on but the ia buttons are not lit up. crazy. everything everyone has suggested i have tried so far. i have to be missing something or do not have something set up correctly on the pod or the pod is not ready the messages correctly. once i figure it out this setup is gonna be perfect for my needs.

Narrowing it down.

So. The CC #s for the Pedal/Footswitch Assignments on the POD HD Pro are toggle on/off messages.

So everything is set up correctly as far as I can tell. The issue is the CC # is not an "on" message or "off" message it's a "toggle".

So here's an example: I have preset 4 on my Ground Control Pro set up to have my clean channel on my Bogner with only the delay on. My instant access button #8 is the delay. I turn it on and save that preset to 4 on the GCP. If I change to preset 2 which I want to have the same delay on but with a different amp channel. I turn on IA button #8 again so it is lit up and save that to preset 2 on the GCP. Now when I switch between the to preset 2 and 4 it toggles the delay off and on.

I think for it to work the way I want the CC #s would have to be different.

For example:

MIDI CC#51 - Toggles FS1 On
MIDI CC#52 - Toggles FS1 Off
MIDI CC#53 - Toggles FS2 On
MIDI CC#54 - Toggles FS2 Off
ETC

Maybe I'm wrong but I think I'm right which is a complete drag because this unit is great but at this point isn't going to have the functionality I was hoping for.

If someone thinks they have a solution please let me know.

Wow... perhaps there will be an update to the just released update. No other processor that I know of handles Control Change messages that way... even other Line 6 processors!
The standard is to use the data value of a Control Change message where a Data value of 0-63 = Bypass, and a data value of 64-127 = Active.
