Hi - please forgive me if this topic has been addressed elsewhere, but I'm not sure how to describe it, so I'm not sure how to search for it, lol...anyway...

My GCX worked perfectly for years (I bought it used), then a month or two ago it started doing this:

I power it up, it cycles through the lights on the front panel and then goes dark and the loops can't be activated.
But here's the thing: SOMETIMES IT STILL WORKS. I'll activate one of the loops via the GCP and the corresponding indicator will light up, as well as the "active" light (and, of course, the loop itself is activated). I tried a different midi cable, with no difference (though it does still power my GCP).
'
Anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Could it be the power supply? Unfortunately due to the 4-pin design of the power supply I can't just grab another "generic" one laying around here and try it...I'm at a loss, and I really need this thing to work reliably and consistently again...thanks for your attention...

You should make sure that the GCX is enabled within Setup Mode on the Ground Control Pro. There is a startup message that the Ground Control Pro sends to the GCX once the splash screen is finished scrolling and every time you exit Setup Mode. It sounds like the GCX is just not receiving this message. Once a GCX successfully receives this message its Active LED will light up and stay on.

I hope that helps!

Hi John, thanks for getting back to me. I checked my GCP and GCX-1 is indeed enabled, unfortunately...I certainly was hoping that somehow it wouldn't be. Any other suggestions?

Is the Pedal In jack on your GCX badly worn, or perhaps feel loose?

Yeah, it's pretty "wiggly"...moreso than it ought to be, I think...all three jacks (power, pedal in, MIDI out) are loose-feeling, actually

If you are the handy type that likes to open stuff up just to see whats inside, you may want to check the solder joints of these jacks. Otherwise you can contact us about sending it in to so we can take a look at the whole thing to be sure its up to par.

I hope that helps!

I did hand it off to a tech a few weeks back and asked him to check just that, and he said something along the lines of since the jacks were mounted to a circuit board that that couldn't be the problem.

I think I'll open it up after the weekend and take a look myself tho...I'll let you know what I find asap...thanks so much!

So, I took a look and now I understand what my tech friend was saying...there don't appear to be ANY solder joints...this may not make any sense, but the jacks sort of sit atop the circuit board and there's a bent metal piece that runs through the jack and seems like it may somehow "join" the jack to the board. Never seen anything like this before...

The solder joints should all be visible on the bottom side of the board. You will have to remove the two screws that mount the board to the chassis as well as the nuts for the Guitar In/Out and Feedthru jacks.

OK, I took it apart and checked under the circuit board...if there's something wrong there it's "beyond my pay grade", if you know what I mean, hahaha...

I actually went ahead and ordered a replacement (you're welcome, Voodoo Lab :-) ) but I would appreciate info regarding how and where to return my older unit for re-spiff-iffication, so at least I'll have a working backup if this ever happens again...BTW, thanks so much for your time and attention on this matter, you rock!!
