For the sake of simplicity, I'll narrow down my problem to the components...

Right now I've got my guitar running in to the GCX and out to 2 Line 6 Flextone III's that I'm running simultaneously in different amp combinations. For channel switching, I am slaving them together via MIDI, out from one and into the other. I was doing this via a Line 6 shortboard, but now that I've added the Ground Control Pro to my rig, I want to toss out the Line 6 Shortboard, and do all MIDI channel switching from the GCP.

The problem that I'm running into is that I'm going from the GCP into the GCX, MIDI out of the GCX, into one of the Line 6's, then MIDI out to the last Line 6. They are both the same make/model and the manual says they operate on MIDI Channel 1.

I've set up the GCP to send signals on MIDI Channel 1 and the first Line 6 it hits, changes the channels (Presets) exactly as I want it to... It's the 2nd Line 6 that's giving me problems as it seems that the MIDI signal isn't traveling through. I've tested all the MIDI cables and they work fine with the Line 6 shortboard, the presets switch on both amps at the same time. So that's not it...

The only thing I can think of is that there must be a setting or something that I am missing on the GCP that isn't allowing it to talk to the second Line 6.

Any ideas would be welcomed...

Thanks in advance..

There really isn't something in the Ground Control Pro to fix this... you will likely only name one device and send your Program Changes on MIDI Channel 1 since these amps don't seem to have the ability to have the MIDI channel edited. It would seem that the first amp should ultimately be sending to the second amp... have you tried swapping the order the two amps are placed in the MIDI path?

Apparently the Shortboard (the original one is what I assume you were using?) manual is no longer available on the Line 6 site, but did it connect via the MIDI jacks or did it only connect using the RJ45 cable?

If it isnt possible to get the first amp to mirror or send the MIDI data to the second amp, then you could employ the use of a MIDI Splitter to basically "Y" the MIDI Out of the GCX to the MIDI In of both amps.

I hope that helps!

I'll give swapping the order of the amps a try...

The Line 6 Shortboard connencted to one of the amps via the rj45 cable.. Then I went MIDI out from one amp to MIDI in of the other and it worked fine.

I also thought of a Y splitter for MIDI. Nice to see that I wasn't to far off in thinking..

Just a followup.. I did wind up using a MIDI y-splitter and it worked.

Now I decided to also use a Ernie Ball Jr volume pedal to control the amp volumes just like their FBV shortboard was doing. Issue I'm having is,I've turned on the expression pedal input on the ground control pro. I've rocked the pedal back and forth and there's no change in amp volume. Am I missing something?
