Old pedalpower2 issue

Post by vhollund » Mon Dec 21, 2020 10:56 am

Hello

Channel 5 and 6 (set to Normal) have been making wierd loud hum so I've avoided using them,

[Edit : Maxon issue turned out to be unrelated to the problem with ch 5-6]

my maxon however seemed to work fine though so i plugged it in one of those yesterday.
But today when i turned everything on i was giving a bad hum and no sound through
When i switched to a healthy outlet on the pp2 it doesn't let sound through at all anymore.
Are there any particular worn capacitors on those 2 channels that can cause the surge when turning on pp2?
5+6 mesure 9.3 v but i am guessing a surge from the pp2 caused the damage.

No and I've never heard of any such surge with a Pedal Power output.

Also, as 9.3VDC is an expected value for a properly working 9V output, I expect the trouble has some other root cause.

Have you testedthe Maxon, setup: Guitar > effect pedal > amp (no additional gear connected)? Any better?

Is the LED on the Maxon turning on?

Hello
I found out the Maxon problem was unrelated, sorry bout that, but i still have a massive hum on output 5-6
In fact the Maxon pedal is the only one that doesn't make a very loud hum when connected

All is set to normal on the PP2 so outputs should be regulated and isolated
The pp2 is connected to a 230v, 3 prong ground outlet.

This PP2 has served me a very long time without issues
Could it be that a bad capacicitor is causing the issue?
What can be causing it and what usually causes it after more than 10 years?

I will make a recording of the issue so that you can witness the problem for yourself

Thanks

Have you tested outputs 5 and 6 independently and one-at-a-time, setup:

Guitar > effect pedal > amp (no additional gear connected),

Is there still noise?

What is the effect pedal being used for the test?

Is the Pedal Power 2 Plus physically close to this effect pedal during the test?
